Wharfedale Men’s Shed Joins the Otley Science Festival Fun!

Wharfedale Men’s Shed joined the Otley Science Festival with a popular bird-box building activity, creating 21 boxes alongside enthusiastic attendees. Guided by Shed members, the event celebrated creativity, teamwork, and local wildlife conservation.

WMS Awarded £5,000 grant from Postcode Community Trust

Wharfedale Men’s Shed is delighted to receive a £5,000 grant from the People’s Postcode Trust, funded by players of People’s Postcode Lottery. This generous support will enhance our activities, providing tools and resources to expand our projects and strengthen our community.

Wharfedale Men’s Shed: Planters, Planks, and Plenty of Laughs!

Wharfedale Men’s Shed recently turned recycled decking boards into six beautiful garden planters for a local Church client. Led by Loz, with help from Bob E. and Michael, the team crafted these ‘planter masterpieces,’ delighting the client and securing a generous donation for the Shed.

Wharfedale Men’s Shed Wins £1,000 Community Giving Award!

Wharfedale Men’s Shed is honoured to receive the £1,000 top prize in Skipton Building Society’s 2024 Community Giving scheme! This incredible donation will fund essential tools and materials, empowering our projects for the Otley community. Huge thanks to Skipton customers and supporters for voting for us! Secretary Bob Miles expressed our gratitude with two handcrafted snowmen for Skipton’s Otley branch.

Health Awareness Presentations

Losing Shed members soon after diagnosis raised the question of recognising early signs of illness and taking action. 
Wharfedale Men’s Shed and Burley-in-Wharfedale Men’s Shed collaborated to deliver a cancer awareness talk, with plans for future sessions on heart disease, stroke, lung conditions, and mental health.

The Great Timber Tangle

“Monday at the Men’s Shed saw Loz, Bob E, and Michael tackle a donation of nail-ridden scrap timber from Tite-Fix. Armed with stubbornness and humor, they turned the chaotic heap into trugs, a planter, and some delightfully odd wooden mushrooms, proving that even hopeless wood can spark creativity and a good laugh.”

Men’s Shed work continues whatever the weather

Not even torrential rain could stop Malcolm, Loz, and Bob as they tackled the day’s work under a leaky gazebo. With tea in hand, wet boots, and plenty of Yorkshire grit, the trio embraced the downpour with humor and determination, proving nothing can dampen Shedder spirit.
