An Unusual Request

When Ani, a friend of Wharfedale Men’s Shed, approached Secretary Bob M with a heartfelt request, he knew it was a special task. Ani’s friend had lost her husband, Steve, and his ashes remained in a cardboard box. She wondered if WMS could craft a wooden alternative – something more lasting and meaningful. Honoured by the request, Bob sourced a beautifully grained pine plank and set to work. Using the Shed’s tools and his woodworking expertise, he created a hinged box with secure clasps. Upon receiving it, Ani’s friend shared her gratitude: *“She loved his resting place box.”*

Clifton Village Hall Book Exchange – Installed 31st May, 2024

In May 2024, WMS crafted and installed a custom book exchange cabinet for Clifton Village Hall. Constructed with durable hardwood, polycarbonate, and weatherproof cladding, it features a shingled roof and a laser-etched “BOOK EXCHANGE” sign. Inspired by a similar design, the cabinet was built to ensure long-lasting functionality and charm.

Jim’s Fence – Installed 4th June, 2024

In June 2024, WMS helped a friend of Bob Miles by creating a custom paling fence in Horsforth. The fence, designed to hide unsightly water butts, was completed by Stuart and Bob, who enjoyed tea and biscuits during the job. The grateful homeowner promised a donation in return.

With Robert B’s garage and trailer support, we transformed the bench after months of drying and restoration. Now restored, it joins others refurbished by WMS, enhancing Otley’s community spaces.
