At Wharfedale Men’s Shed, we don’t just make things; we make memories, laughter, and occasionally, a bit of sawdust in places it shouldn’t be. Our latest adventure involved a very special commission: crafting six garden planters from recycled decking boards for a delighted client from the local Church who wanted to spruce up her outdoor space.
The mastermind behind the project? None other than Loz, our fearless Shedder-in-chief. He rallied the troops (Bob E., Michael, and a few others who wisely stayed just out of camera range when things got hectic) to turn a pile of old decking boards into garden planter gold.
From Decking Boards to Delight
Now, these weren’t just any planters. Each one was a masterpiece, lovingly assembled with screws, sweat, and the occasional muttered curse word. The boards may have started life as someone’s patio, but they ended up as the centrepiece of a very happy garden.
Loz, naturally, was the glue holding the team together—or at least he would have been if Michael hadn’t mixed the actual glue too thick. “It’s not DIY if you don’t accidentally bond yourself to something,” Loz quipped as he deftly avoided any sticky situations.
The Client’s Verdict: “Planter Perfection!”
When the planters were delivered, the client couldn’t have been more thrilled. She called them “perfect,” which we assume is the highest praise possible for what were essentially very fancy boxes for plants. The best part? The planters covered our costs and inspired a very generous donation to the Shed. That means more tools, more timber, and more tea breaks for the gang!
A Picture Worth a Thousand Sawdust Particles
We couldn’t resist snapping a photo of the finished planters before they headed to their new home. (We’ve attached it above—because, honestly, if you don’t post it online, did it even happen?)
So, if you’ve got a DIY dream—or just some old timber lying around—you know where to find us. At Wharfedale Men’s Shed, we promise results with a smile, a story, and maybe a stray nail or two.
Here’s to more sawdust!
