Rebuilding History: Andrew’s 1895 House Restoration with a Little Help from WMS

At Wharfedale Men’s Shed, we love hearing about projects that breathe new life into the past, and Andrew’s restoration of his 1895 home is no exception. Undertaking such a monumental task single-handedly is no small feat—especially in less-than-ideal weather. Andrew’s determination and craftsmanship have transformed the front of his historic house, staying true to its original design and character.

However, there was one challenge he couldn’t tackle alone: recreating the large wooden finials that are such an integral part of the house’s charm. That’s where WMS came in. Andrew reached out to us, and Malcolm, one of our highly skilled turners, stepped up to the plate. Using his expertise and precision, Malcolm crafted beautiful new finials from hardwood on his lathe, providing the perfect finishing touch to Andrew’s project.

The results speak for themselves. From the ‘Before’ state of weathered timber to the ‘After’ glory of restored elegance, the transformation is incredible. Massive kudos to Andrew for his unwavering dedication and vision—we’re proud to have played a small part in helping him achieve this wonderful result.

Take a look at the photos of this inspiring restoration journey. We hope it serves as a reminder of the power of teamwork, skill-sharing, and community support.
