WMS members were pleased to welcome Katie White, MP for Leeds North West to our Shed on Monday 7/4/25.
She met the members, busily crafting their latest projects and was able to hear about our plans for the Otley oak (see separate story), and the background and progress on our plans to build a new workshop at Grove Hill, Otley.
As a reminder of her visit, Bob Miles had turned a bowl from rowan, which he presented to Katie.

Soon after her visit a very complimentary entry on her Facebook page appeared which is reproduced below:

“Such a pleasure to visit Wharfedale Men’s Shed today.

“It was inspiring to hear about the fantastic work they’re doing to support local people — offering friendship, purpose, and practical skills, all while making a real difference to mental health and wellbeing in the community. And fantastic to learn about their work with other brilliant local groups too, like Wildlife Friendly Otley, Otley Larder, and Prickly Pigs Hedgehog Rescue — a real example of community collaboration at its best.

“Their plans for a new workshop space are exciting too, and it’s clear the Shed is a place where people feel valued, connected, and part of something bigger. A huge thank you to everyone who welcomed me today — you’re doing something really special.”
