Wharfedale Men’s Shed’s d(i)ynamic duo, Stuart and Bob M, went back to school.
On Tuesday 27 October 2026, WMS continued supporting Otley’s Westgate Primary School in its drive to make the Victorian school ‘greener’. This time the task was to excavate a trench in the tarmac yard so that Wildlife Friendly Otley could plant a hedge line.
Cutting through the tarmac was the relatively easy, if somewhat dusty, part. The large lumps of hardcore underneath were the real backbreakers, but Bob and Stuart persevered, helped by the forecast rain largely staying away and by the support of some very cheerful ladies from the school, along with Chris Short, the headteacher and the real driving force behind this great initiative.
Four hours’ hard graft saw the job done, and Bob and Stuart headed home for a well-earned soak in a warm bath.
