Tuesday 7th July, 2026 saw two WMS members Bob Miles and Bob (Jim) Johnson at the Bramhope St. Giles church. Their mission was to bring back to life two wooden benches which are situated in the entrance porch to the church. The benches had been in use for a number of years and although still sturdy, were in need of some T.L.C!

So being a fine sunny day, the benches were removed to the grass area to the front of the church and the work of sanding using power sanders and a lot of manual labour began in earnest. Some three hours later, the benches, now showing off the lovely grain patterns of the wood, were ready for coats of a special oil based preservative finish.

Both benches were treated in turn and after another couple of hours, the result was astonishing. Drying time was given in the instructions as being twelve hours before re-coating so Bob M returned on the Thursday to apply a further coat to each bench.

The pictures above show the result:
Church Warden Gill commented: “Thanks Bob(s). We all think you have done a fabulous job!”
