Last year, an Otley resident with a proud family history of living in the town, asked WMS is we could refurbish a bench that for many years had been located on the main thoroughfare outside All Saint’s Church.
More importantly for this resident was that bench had a dedication plaque to her grandparents. Readers of our website will already know that the workshop that we presently use is small, with very limited space for storage and certainly nowhere to keep this old teak bench until it was dry enough to work on.
Robert B to the rescue! With Robert’s trailer available, WMS was able to remove the bench and transport it to our Otley resident’s garage after she offered this space for storage and drying out. After several months the bench was dry enough to do the work.
Robert B to the rescue again! By coincidence, Robert lived on the same road and along with Neil & Stuart moved the bench into Robert’s garage, which he had kindly offered as a base for WMS to undertake the necessary refurbishments. Several periods of scraping, sanding, part replacement and teak oil application, accompanied by the creation of a considerable amount of dust, settling onto every surface of Robert’s garage, resulted in a bench that looked ‘almost’ new.
It now resides back in its proper location outside the church, along with several others that the Town Council has asked WMS to refurbish.
However until WMS is able to move into our proposed new workshop (funding appeals are presently ongoing. See this post) where space for such work will be readily available, we can unfortunately only put such requests on a very long waiting list.
