In 2023 WMS was approached by a social prescriber (from Linking Leeds) in Otley to see if we could help a senior citizen living on her own to replace part of a front garden fence that had blown down in heavy winds leaving her feeling anxious and vulnerable. Leeds Council, the owner of the rented property, informed her that they could not do the work, so in line with WMS policy, prior to us undertaking the project, we verified with her that local tradesmen had been asked but had declined to do the work, judging the job to be too small.

With all measurements taken, to ensure a match with what remained, the timbers were cut in the workshop, then Bob M, Stephen, Bob E & Stuart installed new fence posts, rails and pickets then repainted all the front fencing to create a uniform solution.

Since the completed work was so well received, in April 2024  WMS was asked by the resident to replace a side fence (then built from a variety of materials), with panels. B&TS Builders Merchants Ltd delivered the new materials and the same team set to work. A smart new fence to complement her neighbour’s was the result.
